We encourage contributions that investigate the interplay between musical theory and practice with techniques and methods from artificial intelligence, including computational cognitive modelling of musical processes. We are especially interested in issues of musical representations and analysis, associated algorithms, and the evaluation of musical artefacts. The organising committee welcomes submissions on all aspects of music and artificial intelligence. There will be the following, non-exclusive themes: 1. Representation, Analysis and Pattern Discovery. 2. Situated Musical Cognition, Embodied Musical Perception. 3. Creativity in Musical Composition and Performance. The conference is organised jointly by the Faculty of Music and the Division of Informatics, University of Edinburgh. The conference will consist of paper sessions, posters, round table discussions, concerts and various social events, including a Ceilidh. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Antonio Camurri (University of Genoa, Italy) Ray Jackendoff (Brandeis University, USA) Jean-Claude Risset (Laboratoire de Mechanique et d'Acoustique, France) SUBMISSIONS Submissions are invited in the following categories: Category A: Full research paper Category B: Informal progress report Submissions under category A will be fully refereed, and authors of accepted papers are expected to present their work at the conference. Papers in category A are going to be published as a special issue. Submissions under category B will also be formally refereed, but those submissions accepted will be published in an on-line technical report. The printed version, available at the conference, will include either the abstract of the original technical report, or a more extended version up to 1000 words, according to the authors' choice. Authors of accepted papers of Category B are expected to present a brief outline of their work at the conference and to prepare a poster for display at the conference venue. Unless otherwise requested, submissions rejected under category A will also be considered for inclusion under category B. Submitted papers must describe work not previously published, and must not be submitted concurrently to a journal or to another conference. The reviewing process will be strictly anonymous. Papers should be no more than 12 pages in length, using a 10-point font, following the format specified on the web page and including an abstract of 70-150 words. Authors are strongly encouraged to use LaTeX2e, and/or to submit a PDF file. Templates of both LaTeX and Word for the camera ready copies will appear on the web page soon.
