 Migration-Control.info is looking for researchers, journalists and civil society groups to contribute to our platform.

 <https://migration-control.info/> Migration-Control.info in a nutshell: We are a group of journalists, activists and academics documenting migration control policies. What started as an investigative journalism project in 2016 has now turned into the most comprehensive documentation on European migration control measures that exists to date. We are currently working on the website, updating the content and making it available in more languages. The aim of the project is to curate a database for fellow researchers and activists, where they can find detailed information on migration control and externalization from a critical perspective. 

 

Scope: Our database, hosted on the new website  <https://migration-control.info/> migration-control.info, includes on-the-ground reports for 26 African states, Israel, Turkey, and the eight most important donor countries in Europe that finance the roll-out of surveillance, border fences, policing etc. In addition, we provide background reports on development aid, European Borders and FRONTEX (the EU’s notorious border patrol agency), detention & deportations, militarisation of the borders, diplomacy, biometric surveillance, and historical developments. Migration-control.info also provides op-eds, reports and important news about the European externalization on a blog. We collaborate with activists and journalists within the Middle East as well as North, East & West Africa, and hope to make critical African voices more visible with this project.

 

West Africa Working Group: We are a working group within the Migration-control.info collective. We consist of European and West African journalists, researchers and civil society actors. Together, we are producing and reviewing the content on the European externalization of borders and migration governance in the West African context. We meet online every three months. We welcome critical individuals and members of civil society groups to join our working group. Contributors should have knowledge about migration control and share a stance for global freedom of movement. 

 

We are especially looking for persons to take on responsibility to update the country reports of Benin, Ghana and Ivory Coast and write country reports on Mali, Nigeria, Mauretania, and Burkina Faso. Apart from the West Africa region, we are still looking for persons willing to write reports about IOM and UNHCR. A small remuneration for writing reports can be provided. 

 

Another way to participate in the project is to write an op-ed related to the EU’s migration control for the blog.



The East and Horn of Africa Working group is also still looking for support. While most of the country reports are covered, we welcome people who can overlook the existing content, make sure it’s up-to-date and update them if necessary. 

 

We are also looking for persons who can write a regional report on East-Africa as well as the Khartoum-Process and the UNAMID/UNITAMS-Mission of the UN.

 

History of the project: In July 2016, 25 journalists, editors and correspondents of the German Newspaper TAZ, freelancers, and academics started investigating the dubious deals that had been made by the EU, asking: What exactly is being done today to “prevent migration” outside of the EU? How much (of taxpayers’) money is actually going into these deals with authoritarian regimes? What are the consequences for the people of Africa, and for the migrants themselves? Which corporations and governments make a profit by stopping refugees and migrants? The efforts of this investigative journalism project were published by TAZ in 2017, and are now in the process of being updated to be part of a long-term activist database,  <https://migration-control.info/> migration-control.info. TAZ handed the project over to us, a group of activists who are in the process of updating the reports, relaunching the website, and building up social media platforms.

Bref aperçu : Notre base de données, hébergée sur le nouveau site web  <https://migration-control.info/> migration-control.info, comprend des rapports sur le terrain pour 26 États africains, Israël, la Turquie et les huit principaux pays donateurs en Europe qui financent le déploiement de la surveillance, des clôtures aux frontières, du maintien de l'ordre, etc. En outre, nous avons des rapports de fond sur l'aide au développement, les gardes-frontières et FRONTEX (la fameuse agence de l'UE chargée des patrouilles frontalières), la détention et les déportations, la militarisation des frontières, la diplomatie, la surveillance biométrique et les développements historiques. Migration-control.info propose également des articles d'opinion, des rapports et des nouvelles importantes sur l'externalisation européenne sur un blog. Nous collaborons avec des militant.es <http://militant.es>  et des journalistes au WANA (Asie occidentale et Afrique du Nord) ainsi qu'en Afrique de l'Est et de l'Ouest, et espérons rendre les voix africaines critiques plus visibles grâce à ce projet.

Groupe de travail sur l'Afrique de l'Ouest : Nous sommes un groupe de travail au sein du collectif Migration-control.info. Nous sommes composés de journalistes, de chercheur.euses et d'acteurs de la société civile européens et ouest-africains. Ensemble, nous produisons et révisons le contenu sur l'externalisation européenne des frontières et la gouvernance des mouvements migratoires dans le contexte ouest-africain. Nous nous réunissons en ligne tous les trois mois. Nous invitons les personnes critiques et les membres des groupes de la société civile à rejoindre notre groupe de travail. Les contributeur.euses doivent avoir des connaissances sur le contrôle des mouvements migratoires et partager une position en faveur de la liberté de circulation mondiale. Nous recherchons en particulier des personnes qui prendront la responsabilité de mettre à jour les rapports nationaux du Bénin, du Ghana et de la Côte d'Ivoire et de rédiger des rapports nationaux sur le Mali, le Nigeria, la Mauritanie, et le Burkina Faso. En dehors de la région de l'Afrique de l'Ouest, nous sommes toujours à la recherche de personnes désireuses de rédiger des rapports sur l'OIM et le HCR. Une autre façon de participer au projet est de rédiger un op-ed sur le contrôle des mouvements migratoires de l'UE pour le blog. Une petite rémunération pour la rédaction des rapports peut être prévue.

Le groupe de travail sur l'Est et la Corne de l'Afrique: est toujours à la recherche de soutien. Bien que la plupart des rapports nationaux soient couverts, nous accueillons les personnes qui peuvent passer outre le contenu existant, s'assurer qu'il est à jour et le mettre à jour si nécessaire. Nous recherchons également des personnes capables de rédiger un rapport régional sur l'Afrique de l'Est ainsi que sur le processus de Khartoum et la mission des Nations unies UNAMID/UNITAMS.

Combien d'argent (du contribuable) est réellement consacré à ces accords avec les régimes autoritaires ? Quelles sont les conséquences pour les populations africaines et pour les migrants eux-mêmes ? Quelles sont les entreprises et les gouvernements qui font des bénéfices en arrêtant les réfugiés et les migrants ? Les efforts de ce projet de journalisme d'investigation ont été publiés par la TAZ en 2017, et sont maintenant en cours d'actualisation pour faire partie d'une base de données militante à long terme, migration-control.info <http://migration-control.info> . La TAZ nous a confié le projet, un groupe de militants qui sont en train de mettre à jour les rapports, de relancer le site web et de créer des plateformes de médias sociaux.
