full-time Research Associate / Lecturer

Jacobs University Bremen invites applications for the full-time position of a

         Research Associate / Lecturer

in the School of Engineering and Science (SES) and the Large-Scale Scientific 
Information Systems (L-SIS) research group of Professor Peter Baumann.

The L-SIS research group has a leading position in Big Data Analytics for 
scientific applications; among others, it has established the first complete, 
fully functional n-D array database system, rasdaman, and plays a key role in 
the standardization of geo raster services and Array SQL.

The position is split into 50% teaching (SES) and 50% research (L-SIS). Teaching 
involves introductory programming courses such as C/C++ targeting computer 
science students and introductory courses on Python targeting students enrolled 
in other engineering and science programs. The research part involves software 
development and scientific work in the EarthServer project (www.earthserver.eu) 
where research and industry gather to establish next-generation Big Data 
Analytics on Earth science data.

Participation in funding acquisition is expected after some start-up period. 
Altogether, this position is well suited for the further academic and practical 
qualification as a postdoc.

Required Qualifications:
   * PhD degree in Computer Science or a related area
   * Thorough skills in various programming paradigms, as well as good knowledge 
of databases
   * Responsible, self-motivated, able to work independently, teamwork ability
   * fluent in English, being language of instruction and communication on 
campus; no German is required

Salary is internationally competitive. The position is fully funded, initially 
for two years; a prolongation is possible and expected, depending on third-party 
funding.
