The Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi) at the University of Muenster,
Germany (http://ifgi.uni-muenster.de) is offering a full-time position at
post-graduate level as

***   Postdoctoral Research Associate (fixed term),  (TV-L E13)  ***

to be filled from 1st March 2015 or at the earliest possible time until 31st
December 2018. Please note that the post is offered subject to the final
sign-off of the supporting grant by the funding agency. The salary for the
full time position (current working hours are 39 hours and 50 minutes per
week) is according to the German TVL-13 scale. The full pay scale (monthly
gross income in Euro) is available at http://goo.gl/LU96j . Successful
candidates will be placed in band 13; their level (1 to 5) within this band
will be determined based on prior experience.

Candidates are expected to hold a PhD degree in Geoinformatics, Computer
Science or a related discipline and should have a strong interest in smart
cities and/or in research areas related to smart cities (e.g. location-based
services, mobile and ubiquitous computing). Excellent technical skills are a
prerequisite for applying, and previous experience in building and managing
large software frameworks are also essential. Prior experience in working in
a large-scale international project, including managerial aspects, would be
desirable. Similarly, past work with open source software and familiarity
with the underlying licenses, methods and tools would be of high value for
the advertised position.

The successful candidate will work in the context of an international PhD
program (the project website will shortly go online at http://geo-c.eu) in
the area of open cities. The main tasks will include
• the management of the technical aspects of developing a large open-source
framework;
• supporting doctoral researchers in developing their own research agenda;
• facilitating the collaboration of doctoral researchers groups in Germany,
Spain, and Portugal, and
• contributing to the overall management of the project.

The post comes with mandatory teaching duties of two hours per semester. The
appointment explicitly includes the opportunity to develop an independent
research profile.

Applications should include copies of degree certificates, curriculum vitae,
motivation statement, list of publications (if applicable) and a brief
research plan. Please email applications in the form of a single PDF to
