WhereCamp Berlin
Call for Participation
WhereCamp 2014
Navigation & Local Intelligence
Conference
Berlin, 13th November 2014 as part of the Wherecamp Berlin Event ( <http://wherecamp.de> wherecamp.de)
Navigation shows its benefits every day. “Navi” or car/pedestrian/guidance apps are one of the top 10 most used mobile computing apps. Spatial data, routing algorithms, interactive maps and location sensor data are underlying essentials parts behind the scenes. Traditional navigation concepts and implementations had a strong momentum in the last decade, but also start facing innovation challenges.
There is a trend rising towards specific areas, e.g. outdoor biking and riding or applications for handicapped people with special needs and a more refined and specialized tagged spatial data. Additionally we see a massive growth in the market of usage habits analysis and usage prediction, e.g. where is your home, your working place and what is your preferred commute?
The next hardware generations is already launching, such as probes, indoor positioning devices, autonomous cars or drones. Sensors data will be collected and processed automatically, giving you a sense of real time changes around you, e.g. the brand new “no left turn” sign. Ubiquitous data generation via smart and location aware sensors may sound scary in the first place, but automated updates of spatial data and detection of new features opens a new and efficient way for the location business. However clever big data and security handling is vital. Also the current terra incognita “indoor” need new approaches and sensors, e.g. beacons that facilitate a complete replacement for traditional GPS-based navigation. Additionally to that also new kind of applications will rise, that connect several devices seamlessly. Think about turning off the light, just by pointing to it. Finally it seems pretty clear autonomous cars reshape current mobility patterns and. All this comes with higher efficiency, more free time, less accidents and new kinds of ownership models.
For the event we are looking for speakers working in the field of:
● Navigation Industry
● Spatial Data standards and components
● Spatial Probes and big data
● Algorithms for processing
● User & location experiences
● Indoor positioning and applications
● Specialized Navigation application fields
● Contextual awareness
● eMobility
● Location based Advertising & Marketing
● Location Trends, e.g. in Real Estate
● Logistics with route optimization
● Autonomous cars
● Autonomous drones
The opportunities for next generation navigation and location based intelligence are endless, both in the customer and the enterprise segment.
The upcoming Wherecamp Berlin is focusing on these topics in a conference. This conference day will have a prepared agenda with an earlier call for participation. The second day will be open to any “where” topics in a barcamp style. The third day is a Geo-Hackday with one or two larger topics. The conference language is English. The location is the Beuth University Campus (Luxemburger Straße 10, 13353 Berlin).
Program committee
● Jan Nowak, Head of API Publishing Framework, HERE a Nokia Company
● Philipp Kandal, CTO, Skobbler, a Telenav company
● Jürgen Schönig, Head Navigation and Online Services, Carmeq, a Volkswagen company
● Jan Masch, OSM Buildings
● Manuel Friedrich, Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH
● Prof. Dr. Roland M. Wagner, Beuth University of Technology Berlin, chair
The conference call for participation is looking for contribution from all sectors, e.g. industry, academics and open data/source community. If you want speak, please provide us your presentation title and a short summary by not later than October the 15th, 2014 via email at <mailto:cfp at wherecamp.de> cfp at wherecamp.de . No conferences fees do apply. Novel ideas and concepts are welcome as well.
