Dear Colleagues,
It is my pleasure to invite you to the next talk in this term's RAM
Colloquium Series:
Geosocial analytics – Frontiers in analysing human-generated
spatial data
Prof. Dr Bernd Resch (University of Salzburg); Friday, 4
December, 11 am CET / 10 am GMT, virtual event
Registration is possible via the following Google Form (the link to the
Zoom session will be shared with all registered participants closer to
the event): https://forms.gle/hUP2nBcJdsbT3S8y7
The RAM Colloquium is a forum for discussing the latest research in the
field of geospatial information science. Invited speakers will report on
their recent and ongoing work and provide an outlook on major lines and
challenges ahead in their respective fields. This time, Prof. Dr Bernd
Resch from the University of Salzburg will deliver a talk entitled
"Geosocial analytics – Frontiers in analysing human-generated spatial
data". You will find the abstract below and attached. Do not hesitate to
forward this message and the attached PDF invitation to your PhD
students, colleagues, and anybody who might be interested in the talk
and discussion.
We look forward to lively participation and discussion!
René Westerholt and the RAM team
*Abstract:*
Due to the wide-spread use of disruptive digital technologies like
mobile phones, cities have transitioned from data-scarce to data-rich
environments. A variety of large-scale human-generated datasets,
wearable sensing technologies and geo-social networks have emerged that
have the potential to help us in gaining a better understanding of
geospatial and spatio-temporal processes. As a result, the field of
GIScience is being reshaped and challenged to develop innovative and
adequate methods for data analysis, knowledge generation and information
visualisation. This talk outlines opportunities and innovative methods
(including machine learning approaches) of data-driven analysis for
human-generated data to generate new insights into geospatial social
phenomena.
