The RAM Colloquium is a forum for discussing the latest research in the field of geospatial information science. Invited speakers will report on their recent and ongoing work and provide an outlook on major lines and challenges ahead in their respective fields. This time, Dr Franz-Benjamin Mocnik from the University of Twente will deliver a talk entitled "SDGs, Siri, and Everyday Behaviour – Platial Information as an Interdisciplinary Research Challenge". You will find the abstract below and attached. Do not hesitate to forward this message and the attached PDF invitation to your PhD students, colleagues, and anybody who might be interested in the talk and discussion.

We look forward to lively participation and discussion!

Abstract:

Everyday behaviours unfold in places and are thus decisively shaped by them. Therefore, platial information plays an important role in addressing challenges including achieving many of the Sustainable Development Goals and the future development of Question Answering Systems like Siri, Cortana, and Alexa, as these are linked to everyday behaviour. In his talk, Dr Mocnik takes stock of current research to then develop a vision of Theories of Platial Information and corresponding Platial Information Systems. In particular, he addresses the representation of as well as the reasoning about places and platial qualities. The theoretical considerations are illustrated by numerous examples and provide a long-term research perspective.
