From rene.westerholt at tu-dortmund.de Mon Apr 24 12:01:09 2023 From: rene.westerholt at tu-dortmund.de (=?UTF-8?Q?Ren=c3=a9_Westerholt?=) Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2023 12:01:09 +0200 Subject: [GeoIT.org] Invitation to a RAM Colloquium with Nina Wiedemann (online event) Message-ID: <0a1d806e-080f-b97e-9d02-b225eaf8121f@tu-dortmund.de> Dear Colleagues, It is my pleasure to invite everyone interested to another talk in the RAM Colloquium Series: Combinatorics for sustainability ? how optimization methods can support spatial planning and operations Nina Wiedemann (Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation, ETH Zürich); Friday, 26 May, 11 am CEST; online event on Zoom (the link will be shared with all registered attendees closer to the event) We would kindly like to ask you to register via the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/oNbW63edKK9Ny5jz8 The RAM Colloquium is a forum for discussing the latest research in the field of geographic information science and adjoining fields. Invited speakers will report on their recent and ongoing work and provide an outlook on major lines and challenges ahead in their respective fields. Do not hesitate to forward this message and the attached PDF invitation to your PhD students, colleagues, and anybody who might be interested in the talk and discussion. We look forward to lively participation and discussion! René Westerholt and the RAM team Abstract: Tackling climate change requires radical changes to the energy and transportation sector. However, the planning of energy or transport infrastructure is usually a tedious process with many influencing factors and an intractable number of possibilities. Mathematical approaches for such combinatorial problems can yield provably good solutions. In this talk, I present our research on spatial optimization in three application scenarios: power infrastructure planning, allocating urban space to bikes, and integrating power supply and mobility with vehicle-to-grid. Our work calls for more integration of mathematical approaches in the transformation towards sustainability, not only for efficient operations, but also for spatial planning. -- Jun.-Prof. Dr René Westerholt FRGS TU Dortmund University Spatial Modelling Lab, Department of Spatial Planning August-Schmidt-Str. 10, 44227 Dortmund, Germany [Voice] +49 (0)231 755 2287 [Email] rene.westerholt at tu-dortmund.de [Web (uni)] https://ram.raumplanung.tu-dortmund.de/ [Web (private)] https://www.westerholt-giscience.net Wichtiger Hinweis: Die Information in dieser E-Mail ist vertraulich.
